By Angela Askey, Executive Director Public Relations and Marketing
PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. – The new Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) club at Central Arizona College will be holding a ‘9/11: Never Forget Project’ on Mon., Sept. 11, 2023, at the Maricopa and Signal Peak Campuses.
The project will feature an all-day display of 2,977 American flags on the green at both campuses. Each flag represents those who died in the terrorist attacks 22 years ago at the World Trade Center, Pentagon and on United Flight 93.
The ceremony at the Maricopa Campus (17945 N. Regent Dr, Maricopa, AZ 85138, between A and B buildings) will take place at 8 a.m. with the Signal Peak Campus (8470 N. Overfield Rd., Coolidge, AZ 85128) event happening at 5:30 p.m. at the I building.
The ceremonies at both campuses will include the CAC Police Department and CAC Fire Science program along with a moment of silence and prayer. The Casa Grande Union High School JROTC color guard and PSCO Junior Cadets will present the colors at the Signal Peak Campus Ceremony. The Maricopa Campus ceremony will feature State of Arizona Representative Teresa Martinez as the guest speaker and State of Arizona Congressman Senator TJ Shope will speak at the Signal Peak Campus event.
It is the goal of this first-time YAF event to promote patriotism and pride for college students, all young Americans, and the Pinal County community and to continue fighting for freedom in our nation.
Pinal County community members are invited to join CAC students, faculty, staff and their families during this remembrance.
The YAF chapter supports members who uphold the values of America’s Founding Fathers and the Constitution. The organization’s principles aim to popularize the ideas of freedom of individuals, free market, limited government, lower taxes necessary to generate economic growth and prosperity for all Americans and a strong national protectionism. YAF’s purpose is to encourage educational activism on CAC campuses to develop conservative leadership through training and special events.
Founded by William F. Buckley, Jr. and a group of young conservatives in 1960 at his home in Sharon, Connecticut, Young Americans for Freedom today promotes to youth the principles identified above, outlined in the ‘Sharon Statement’. In 2011, Young America’s Foundation unified with Young Americans for Freedom, which serves as the National Foundation’s Chapter affiliate on college and high school campuses across the country. The national chapters accomplish this by participating in a wide range of campus initiatives, such as the 9/11: Never Forget Project, Freedom Week, and the GPA Redistribution Contest, among others; and by hosting prominent conservative speakers. National Headquarters sites are based in Reston, Virginia and the Reagan Ranch Center in Santa Barbara, California.
