AZ Speaks, Talking Code with a Secret Weapon: Navajo Code Talkers Speak
Hear a compelling story about the WWII Navajo Code Talkers. A group of young Navajo men enlisted in the Marines and created an unbreakable Navajo language code that played a crucial role in saving many American lives during the war. You will hear code talkers' stories of resilience and service to a country that had previously tried to erase their identity and language through live interviews. These men persevered despite returning to poverty and few opportunities. They were honored for their service over twenty years later. They helped to change the Navajo Nation and their communities through the pride instilled as a result of their dedication.
This program will feature Laura Tohe, a Diné poet, librettist, and daughter of Navajo Code Talker.
